Privacy policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Herbarium is a personal field journal for plant finds, operated by Ante Peović (contact: antepeovic@gmail.com). This policy explains what the app collects and why.

What we collect

  • Account data — your email address, name, and profile picture, handled by our sign-in provider Clerk (email/password or Google sign-in).
  • Plant photos — the photos you take or import to identify a plant. They are stored with your journal and are also sent to the third-party identification service Pl@ntNet to suggest a species. Pl@ntNet processes the photo on our behalf and does not store it.
  • Location — if you grant location permission, the GPS position of each find is saved with the sighting so your journal can show where you found it. Location is optional; the app works without it. Your location is not sent to the identification service.
  • Crash and error reports — technical diagnostics (device model, OS version, stack traces) via Sentry, used only to fix bugs.

Where it lives

Journal data (species, sightings, photos, locations, notes) is stored in our database and file storage hosted by Supabase. Species descriptions are fetched from Wikipedia.

What we don't do

  • No ads, no sale of personal data, no third-party analytics or tracking.
  • Your journal is private to your account. Other users cannot see your finds.
  • Photos are used only for identification and your own journal.
  • This website uses no analytics, no cookies, and loads nothing from third parties.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and all data at any time from Profile → Delete account inside the app, or by requesting deletion on the account deletion page. Deletion removes your account, species collection, sightings, photos, notes, and identification history.

A note on plant identification

Identifications are probabilistic suggestions, not expert verification. Never eat or use a plant based on an identification in this app.

The image-based plant species identification service used, is based on the Pl@ntNet recognition API, regularly updated and accessible through the site https://my.plantnet.org/.
